Iron....it depends on context.
If being called it just as a pleasantry then I have no issue ...they call everyone pet up here..but again harmless.
If being used in a patronising way during a debate for example then yes its very demeaning.

I said 'excuse me luv' to some posh (most likely extremely rich) bird on Saturday night in Surrey and got a right evil. I did cringe a little.
I met a Canadian bird the weekend before in London and she told me the terms LUV and DARLING are really endearing.
Who knows with birds. They're all nuts.

Some bird I know put up a huge dissertation length status the other week moaning about how men on pof sometimes comment on her being attractive without mentioning anything about what she says in her profile.
Apparently this is evidence of women "still" being "objectified".
Really gotta wonder about how our world is going when people actually get upset and angry and develop a victim complex over being complimented.
